The
Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF) marked its 20th Anniversary
of bringing life-giving care to people in need on Saturday, May
3 when multi-Grammy-winning vocalist and songwriter Seal headlined “An
Evening with Larry King and Friends” at The Ritz-Carlton,
Washington, DC. Broadcast icon Larry King and
his wife, Shawn Southwick-King, hosted 400 friends
and fans at the black-tie benefit, which raised more than $1.2
million towards the Foundation’s programs for uninsured cardiac
patients – men, women and children.
For the third consecutive year, the popular dinner and gala was
underwritten by the St. Jude Medical Foundation,
allowing all proceeds to directly benefit LKCF patients and bringing
the Foundation one step closer towards its goal to Save a Heart
a Day.
In addition to Seal’s powerhouse performance, the inimitable Darrell
Hammond showed off the hilarious imitations and political
jibes that have made him a favorite on Saturday Night Live and
in comedy clubs across America. A dazzling performance by Las Vegas
illusionist Nathan Burton opened the show.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chrysler LLC, Robert
Nardelli, was presented with the distinguished Gerald
S. Snyder Heart Award, named in honor of the late father of Washington
Redskins owner, and Gala Dinner chair, Daniel Snyder who
presented the award.
Joseph F. Sabik, III, MD of Cleveland Clinic was
honored with the Physician Laureate Award. The award was presented
by Elizabeth Nabel, MD, director of that National
Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, a part of the National Institutes
of Health.
