Three
'Bigs' and 'Littles', matched from Big Brothers Big
Sisters of New York City, shared their stories and experiences
from the Waldorf's ballroom stage, as they presented awards to this
years inspiring honorees at their 29th Annual Sidewalks
of New York Gala held on April 14. Honorees included four
incredible role models who have overcome personal and professionals
obstacles to obtain significant success: Superbowl MVP Eli
Manning; Comcast chairman & CEO Brian
L. Roberts; and Michelle Ebanks and Angela
Burt-Murray of Essence Magazine.
Each award was presented to the honoree by a child and his/her
mentor. Over the past two months, the matches had been writing and
rehearsing their introductory remarks -- making for moving, heartfelt
presentations sparkling with individualized wit and personality.
The event raised over $ 2 million dollars for programs helping the youth
of New York City.
CNN Anchor and Special Correspondent, Soledad O'Brien was
Mistress of Ceremonies. Evan R.Chesler, Presiding
Partner, Cravath, Swaine, & Moore LLP, was Dinner Chairman.
A special surpise award was presented to Allan Luks,
executive director, recognizing his accomplishments and devotion
to Big Broothers Big Sisters of NYC for the past 18 years.
Luks plans to step down this summer.
