The
National Women’s Division of the Albert Einstein College
of Medicine honored Pamela Fiori, Whoopi Goldberg,
Dylan Lauren, Zaha Hadid, Suzanne Wright and Sydell
L. Miller, a prominent and diverse group of women for
their professional and humanitarian successes, at its 54th annual “Spirit
of Achievement” Awards Luncheon on May 5 at the Pierre Hotel
in New York City.
The event raised more than $500,000 for research of children’s
developmental disorders – including Autism – at Albert
Einstein College of Medicine’s Children’s Evaluation
and Rehabilitation Center (CERC), which diagnoses and treats children
with developmental disorders, such as autism and language and learning
disabilities.
The event was emceed by Donny Deutsch, advertising
innovator and host of the program “The Big Idea” on
CNBC. The event was co-chaired by Judith Ripka Berk, Nancy
Corzine and Andrea Stark of the New York
City chapter of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine National
Women’s Division.
The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is one of the nation’s
premier centers for research, medical education and clinical investigation.
It is the home to some 2,000 faculty members, 750 M.D. students,
350 Ph.D. students (including 125 in combined M.D./Ph.D. programs)
and 380 postdoctoral investigators. Last year, Einstein received
more than $150 million in grant funding from the National Institutes
of Health (NIH). In addition, the NIH funds major research
centers at Einstein in diabetes, cancer, liver disease, and AIDS.
