Overview

The State of Maryland has undertaken a unique opportunity to create a new museum of African American history and culture in Baltimore-the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture. The museum is the largest of its kind on the East Coast.

Maryland's museum of African American history and culture was renamed, by unanimous decision by the State Board of Public Works and museum leadership, to the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture. Reginald F. Lewis was a native Marylander who became the first African American to own a fortune 500 corporation, TLC Beatrice Foods International.
