Education: BS, New York University School of Business and Public Administration, 1979
Personal: He and his wife Ophelia have two children.
Background: Encouraged by his grandfather, Samuel Rudin who along with his brothers and sisters started Rudin Management Company, Inc. in 1925; William Rudin joined the family real estate business in 1979, after graduating from New York University.
After training in various aspects of this New York City based, vertically integrated real estate company by his father Lewis and his Uncle Jack, the Rudin torch was officially passed to the third generation in December 1993 when Bill was appointed president of Rudin Management Company, Inc. Leading the Rudin business meant more than managing their portfolio of 16 office buildings comprising more than 10 million square feet and 22 apartment buildings. The family has had a long tradition of mixing business with politics and civic leadership. Following in his father’s and his uncle’s footsteps, Bill has embraced the spirit of public responsibility and has become a leader in many of the City’s leading civic groups. Bill was recently elected Chairman of The Association for a Better New York (ABNY), an organization co-founded by his father over thirty years ago. ABNY is a coalition of business, labor and political leaders created to help improve the quality of life for businesses, tourists and residents of New York.
William has put his own personal mark on the family business by championing the resurgence of Lower Manhattan giving new life to old properties, both residential and commercial, through converting them into technology smart buildings. In 1995, after remaining vacant for five years 55 Broad Street became the first building to bring broadband connectivity to each and every floor. With this innovative concept and creating a community for the new media industry 55 Broad Street was leased in 18 months and led the turn around in downtown Manhattan while starting the trend to make smart, ready buildings. Other projects include Wired@ 110 Wall Street, 3 Times Square- The Reuters Building, and the Rudin’s latest project- The Global Connectivity Center at 32 Sixth Avenue.
